      · plastic mesh ‘Scentry Heliothis trap’ (manufactured by Scentry, a division of Ecogen Inc.)

                  · trap is re-useable for a few years

      · wire mesh Heliothis trap

                  · more durable than the plastic mesh Scentry Heliothis trap

      · if monitoring both corn earworm & European corn borer, get a separate trap for each species

 

Traps for variegated cutworm (in tomatoes), fall armyworm (in sweet corn & tomatoes), and squash vine borer (in squash & pumpkins)

      · universal moth trap (also known as unitrap or bucket trap)

      · standard model (yellow/white/green) for variegated cutworm and squash vine borer

      · all-green model for fall armyworm

      · cost is $8.50 - $12.50 per trap; available from Great Lakes IPM and Gempler’s

      · helpful to put a small fumigant strip in each trap, such as ‘Hercon Vaportape’ (contains DDVP), replace every 4-8 weeks; cost $5.65 for 25 strips (1” x 1/2”), from Great Lakes IPM

 

Lures for corn earworm & European corn borer:

      · lures for European corn borer come in 2 formulas; Ohio growers should be sure to specify the Iowa type lure; Ohio growers do not need the ‘New York’ type lure

      · ‘Hercon Luretape’ lures made by Hercon:

                  · each lure is flat, about 1-inch square

                  · change lure every 2 weeks

                  · cost is $16 for a packet of 10 lures; available from Great Lakes IPM

      · lures by Trécé Inc.:

                  · each lure is cylindrical, about 1/2-inch long

                  · change lure every 4 weeks

                  · cost per lure is $1.76 - 2.55; available singly or in pack of 25
