The Meigs/Washington County Vegetable Tour from Meigs County, Ohio

June 12, 2002. The mild early spring has allowed many growers to put in early plantings of various vegetable crops. But when the frosty weather of May came many crops were challenged and most crops were saved because the OH river fogged over protecting the vegetables from frost. Vegetables on higher land were killed or injured and had to be replanted.

Take this mini-tour to see what crops looked like as of mid-June in southeast OH.

This year's tour took place at Richard Hill and O'Brien's farm. A look to the southwest shows the threatining skys.

Tour participants check out Ty Brenniger's tomato field.

After a long hot day checking out grower's fields, (left to right) Eric Barret, Washington county agent, Dr. Celeste Welty, Entomologist, and Hal Kneen, Meigs County agent and tour guide look for any shade they can find.
